CALABAR High's Under-16s and St George's College's Under-19s will look to clinch the urban inter-secondary schoolboy basketball titles this afternoon when game two of both best of three finals tips off at the National Stadium Court this afternoon.
At 1 o'clock Calabar's juniors will face St Jago High before St George's College face Calabar's seniors at 3 o'clock.
In Tuesday's opening junior encounter Calabar took control in the final quarter to win 38-33. Jordan Kellier was the dominant player for Calabar with 18 points, 13 rebounds, four blocks and four steals. For St Jago, Lushane Wilson scored 14 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.
In the senior encounter St George's whipped Calabar 73-60. Calabar led 33-24 at half-time but it was a determined St George's team that came out in the third quarter and reduced the deficit to six as Calabar held on to a 48-42 lead at the end of the quarter.
Despite being cheered on by a large number of their track and field teammates who took time out from their training session at the Stadium East to support their colleagues, Calabar were outclassed by St George's in the final quarter.
Calabar could only manage 12 points in the quarter, compared to St George's 31. Jehvaughn Faulkner with 19 points and eight rebounds was the star for the winners while Calabar's Mark Jackson scored a game high 31.
