Amazing service at Swallowfield Depot
The management and employees of the Swallowfield Motor Vehicle Examination Depot deserve public commendation. I recently went there to have my car examined and a new fitness certificate issued.
On my arrival at 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, I was informed by an employee that they only offer the service up to 3 p.m., but they begin at 7:30 a.m., so if I had the fee receipt, I could return at that time on Friday.
I returned at 7:10 a.m. the following day and saw that a gentleman had arrived before and was waiting. Upon checking the office, I found Rebecca mopping the floor and tidying up. She asked me politely what I was there for and gave me very clear, comprehensive and precise advice on how to proceed.
I followed the instructions and found myself experiencing a growing sense of hope and optimism for the future of the Jamaica Public Service Company and, by extension, Jamaica.
This was service, efficiency and professionalism beyond what I had previously experienced on my myriad visits to the same location, as well as several other government agencies over many years.
The nightmare experiences, long waits, impolite and unprofessional front line staff seemed to be from a different world and a different time. I felt no urge to ask someone unofficially how much it would cost to get this service more quickly so I could leave and go to work to be productive.
My pride and optimism reached a climax, and my resolve to write this letter was confirmed when I drove through the gate with my new certificate of fitness. I had had a high-quality experience; informative encounter with Rebecca; pleasant and professional service from the examiner (he rigorously tested the roadworthiness of my car); shared jokes with the gentleman ahead of me while we waited and left a satisfied customer.
I looked at my car timepiece as I exited the gate. It was 7:28 a.m., in Jamaica!
