Don't give cricketers a dime more

Published:Monday | December 22, 2014 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

What right do the current West Indies cricketers have for walking out on the tour of India and demanding higher pay?

I surmise that if most of us did our jobs so poorly, we would get a reduction in our pay or be sacked for underperformance.

I think the most significant impact on the West Indies cricket team is lack of commitment. Without that, I do not see much improvement in the team.

Do they not realise that they have to perform to get people to part with their hard-earned cash at the turnstile?

And for all those people who are calling for regional representation in Test cricket, please wake up from your slumber.

As I sit at my desk here in frigid Toronto, I would love to watch the West Indies putting up a fight. It's not all about winning, but at least making an effort to compete.

Being defeated by an innings and 200-plus runs in the space of four days - with one period lost - shows you are not committed.

I pray for better days to come again.
