Guild letter to students

Published:Friday | January 2, 2015 | 12:00 AM

From: The Guild Council

To: All students

As a result of the newly implemented GPA Scheme, the University has advised the Guild of Students that it is taking every precaution to ensure the interest of students is protected with respect to the examination results of the recently concluded semester. As a result, there may be a delay in the release of examination results due to the fact that the University has decided that:

No results are issued for Semester I examinations until they have been scrutinised by the Board of Examiners.

First Examiners have also been asked to review examination performance in each course and to report to the Faculty Board on Examinations on the quality of performance in each course for which they are responsible compared to 2013/2014, with particular reference to: a. Proportion of failures; and b. Proportion of passes in the A and B grade bands.

Where a significant variation in performance from previous years is noted which cannot be satisfactorily accounted for by the First Examiner, the Faculty Board of Examiners is asked to refer the scripts to the University Examiner for urgent review.

These measures are very important to ensure that your interest is protected and the Guild of Students endorses these measures. Please be assured that we will be monitoring the situation very closely and will provide further updates should the need arise.

We ask that you bear with the University as this is the first test of the new grading scheme, thus it is important that a thorough analysis is undertaken to ensure students are not treated unfairly.
