Hoeness granted parole


Former Bayern Munich president, Uli Hoeness has been granted day parole seven months after going to prison for tax evasion. Bavarias state justice ministry says Hoeness is allowed to leave prison during the day to work as of yesterday, though hell have to return in the evening a common arrangement in Germany. Bayern has said it hopes to give Hoeness a job in its youth department this month.

Hoeness was convicted in March of evading taxes through an undeclared bank account in Switzerland and sentenced to 31/2 years in prison. He started serving his sentence in June.

German team switches to avoid models


It seems that sharing a hotel with 400 Russian models isnt every sportsmans idea of a good time. German third-division soccer team Duisburg says it has changed the hotel booking for its winter training camp in Turkey next week after learning that the hotel it had reserved is hosting a pageant of Russian models.

Duisburg said that the club wants to prepare calmly for its matches and the original hotel may also have been overbooked. The team will be staying at another hotel in the Mediterranean city of Antalyas Lara district from January 8-16.

Bulls beat Nuggets


Derrick Rose scored 13 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter and the Chicago Bulls beat the Denver Nuggets 106-101 on Thursday night to maintain their stranglehold on the Central division. Jimmy Butler scored 26 for Chicago and Pau Gasol added 17 points, nine rebounds and a career-high nine blocks as the Bulls stretched their divisional lead over Cleveland to 41/2 games.

The late surge by Rose lifted the Bulls to their 11th win in 13 games. The 2011 NBA MVP missed his first eight shots, including all seven in a scoreless first half, but the point guard dominated down the stretch, coming up with one big basket after another.

Wilson Chandler led Denver with 22 points. Ty Lawson scored 20, while Arron Afflalo had 19 points. Kenneth Faried added 18 points and 19 rebounds, but the Nuggets fell to 4-12 on the road.
