THE EDITOR, Sir:

The great genius-like works of Peter Bunting is admirable and very good for commercial trade and subsequent development and our advancement plus prosperity.

He has arrested the age-long problem of crime and violence in most communities. The dissolving of high-profile gangs and the creation of safer communities is a definitely a major positive from the security minister.

The destruction of violent gangs is only a stepping-stone to a better and gentler society. The minister must now work in tandem with other public agencies to accelerate these positives.

What needs to be done now is to find work for dismantled gang members before they get frustrated and begin to regroup in even more evil forces. Open training centres in major towns and connect them to small villages.

Give the unoccupied an option to live by and there will be definitely be fewer murders and other nefarious activities. For those in jail, make provisions for them to deal with life out of prison. Expose more of them to skills which are in demand in the wider society.

When these initiatives are activated, persons will find the best avenue to move on from a life of crime and violence. There will be fewer recidivists in society and persons will feel compelled to comply with the goodness in society. We could even try a gun amnesty, once more, to elicit the guns from the hands of killers who have been wrecking the society with killing sprees. Continue the mobilising of youths with community policing to ensure that we ward off criminal intents of the youngsters in our midst.
