Sponsors out for Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run

Easily Jamaica's biggest 5K event, the Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run has once again brought out a diverse group of sponsors.
Slated for Sunday, February 22, the event has garnered support across sectors, with entities providing everything from refreshment and security to publicity and innovation. The sponsors for this year's event are: Reggae Marathon, National Baking Company, Kingston and St Andrew Corporation, Catherine's Peak, RJR Communications Group, Jamaica Observer, Gatorade, eMedia Interactive, Whistling Frog, Digicel Jamaica, Marksman, Guardsman Alarms, ATL Automotive Group, Signtex Limited, Starlight Production, Jacquie Tyson Events, Bsocial Jamaica, Sportsmax, Desnoes & Geddes Foundation, Lithographic Printers, GDI Distributors and Bio-Tech R and D Institute. Some representatives were present at the launch of the event on Wednesday at the Knutsford Court Hotel.
Race Director Alfred 'Frano' Francis, of Running Events Limited, explained the winning runners (male and female) in the Open category gain free entry into the Reggae Marathon. In addition, all who register for the Sigma run, get a 10 per cent discount for the marathon.
Running Events will also be providing the MyLaps Timing bibs that record the time done by each participant; previously, the bids were provided by overseas companies. Also providing innovation for the race is Bsocial Jamaica, the company that conceptualised the Sigma Run app which is available on Google Play and iTunes. Participants can view the route and practise completing it, using the app to mark their progress as the race nears.
The Kidney Kids Foundation and Cornwall Regional Hospital's (CRH) Neonatal Unit are the beneficiaries of this year's run. Kidney Kids supports, through charitable donations, institutions islandwide that care for children with chronic kidney disease. The CRH's neonatal unit provides life-saving care for babies born ill or prematurely, and is currently non-operational as it undergoes extensive refurbishing. The goal for this year is to raise $25 million.
Millions in contributions
Now in its 17th year, the Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run has contributed approximately $146 million to local charities and childcare facilities since inception. Last year, the event raised more than $21 million, with a record number of more than 22,000 participants. Francis said registration for the 2015 version closes on February 6, or if they reach their desired number of 25,000 participants before that date.
The entry fee for corporate teams is $65,000. Groups larger than 75 persons require a contribution of $900 per additional team member. There is also a corporate T-shirt design competition where awards will be presented to the company with the most original, colourful and creative design. Companies must also use the logo and race theme, 'Save Our Children, Save Our Future'. To be eligible, all t-shirts must be submitted by February 6.
