T-Air debuts in Discovery Bay

New service station design to spread islandwide

As part of Total Jamaica Limited's ongoing steps to modernise its outlets and keep pace with a changing environment for providing fuel and other items to commuters, the company officially unveiled its first T-Air design in Jamaica at its newest station at Discovery Bay, St Ann, last Friday.

"It's a response to some customer-satisfaction surveys that we have done, with the aim to improve the level of modernity within our service stations and to have our stations having a more integrated look with the environment. It takes into consideration a number of sustainable development factors, being more energy efficient and having a more earthly tone to the look of the service stations," said network manager at Total, Howard Henry.

Although asked about the project's cost, Total remained tight-lipped about the figure.

Henry said a service station outside the Corporate Area was chosen for the upgrade as it had been slated to come on stream for some time. Although the launch was held two days ago, the T-Air service station has been in operation and Henry said the feedback has been positive.

"Already we have been getting rave reviews for the service station," Henry said, adding that Jamaica is the first country in the company's Latin America region to deploy the new infrastructuire.

ANNIVERSARY UPGRADE

The ultra-modern T-Air design is part of the French company's initiative to upgrade its service station network across Jamaica, as it marks its 10th anniversary operating in the island. The new design includes a streamlined canopy with a transparent structure, teak-coloured totem, (the major ID sign) with a floral element and the facade complemented by a terrace relaxation area.

T-Air, which is French for Total Amelioration de l'Image Reseau, translates to 'Total Network Image Improvement' and is a revamping of the current 'Premier' red and white look, which was instituted in 2004.

Henry explained that the design change is necessary to position Total Jamaica strategically in the country's petroleum retail market. "We intend to ultimately increase our share of the market. We are looking to reinvent ourselves in terms of our image in the minds of our customers also. Every so many years the company will look at how we invigorate," he explained.

Construction was done by Total Jamaica and local company First Venture Limited, which was chosen because of its work on other developments done with the French company.

By this time next year, the Total station at Discovery Bay will not be the only example of the T-Air look in Jamaica." "Within the next 12 months, we anticipate that we should have another four or five sites having the full T-Air designs," Henry said.

Total officials hinted at doing developments in St Catherine and Kingston and also at other points along the north coast, apart from Discovery Bay.
