What I want to see in 2015

Published:Monday | January 19, 2015 | 12:00 AM

So it's 2015, and as usual, I ain't making any resolutions.

Pointless really, because humans generally, and some Jamaicans especially, have a very short attention span and can be as fickle as a leggobeast! So planning what you're going to be doing for the next 365 (or 366) days, takes some mental fortitude. Last year, I made up a try-to-do list. I was somewhat successful. My anger/over-excitement at sports diminished greatly. Still have some work to do, though. The other two things I tried - a) not to quarrel about politicians, and b) not to get annoyed at things that didn't affect me personally - I had less success with. But I'm still working on it!

So, for 2015, I've decided to look at the things I would like to see happen for the year. First thing that comes to mind is the road deaths. We were doing really well with those numbers. In 2012, the deaths were below 300 for the first time in years. The following year had just over 300, but it's like 2014 was the year the Grim Reaper got his revenge. We even had motorcycle crashes where they ran into each other. How the hell do you achieve that? Anyway, cut the speed, cut the drinking, and just cut the overall foolishness.

More pay and low crime rate

While all major crimes were down by double digits last year, somehow it didn't always feel that way. So, more reduction we say. And that includes you, me, Miss Matty and Mas Joe all doing their part. I would love to see some extra pay in the pockets of the working class. Of course, I would also like us to continue passing the International Monetary Fund tests. I'm not sure if I'll get them both, though; they kinda sound mutually exclusive. But what do I know?

In sports, I would love to see us tear up the track as the IAAF World Championships come to Beijing. Remember what happened the last time Jamaicans went to Beijing? Uh-huh! Buy Cash Pot because I'm saying gold! Also on sports, I would love to see Jamaica's Sunshine Girls win the World Netball Championships in Australia. Third and fourth are nice, but 'a time we get the gold'. As for the Reggae Boyz at the Gold Cup? Try reach di semis nuh please?

Running out of space, so I'll go like quicksilver. Gully Bop, don't follow hype. Tivoli enquiry? Lawyers, please ask sensible questions. Witnesses? Don't get 'ignorant' so quickly! West Indies? Try win two Test match nuh? And even two game at the Cricket World Cup? As for my fellow Jamaicans, start conserve water, because the place is getting dry already.

And perhaps the biggest thing I want to see in 2015? The Jamaican people who comment on EVERYthing on social media, actually get a life and find something fi do a day time. I'm out.
