Published:Monday | January 19, 2015 | 12:00 AM

It is often said that a woman's hair is her beauty and with life's overwhelming activities, hair care is often left on the back burner.

Not anymore, gone are the days when it seemed like rocket science to grow and maintain luscious locks. Over the next few months, Hair Care with Flair will give you the industry's best-kept secrets to ensure you have gorgeous hair sooner rather than later.

Clean and care

A clarifying and sulphate shampoo is a priority, along with a deep moisturising conditioner.

Moisturise and seal

We cannot emphasise this enough - dry hair is prone to damage so using a moisturiser (one that does not contain petroleum jelly) and natural oils (castor, olive, coconut, argon, avocado) are very important. For those with skin conditions such as eczema, avoid parabens and mineral oils.

Diet and exercise

In order to have healthy hair you have to have a healthy diet. Drink a lot of water, especially if you have dry scalp. And take a hike! Get some jogging done or take a simple stroll around the block.

Heat prevention

Air drying is your friend. If you must use a blow-drier, flat iron or curling iron, ensure you are never out of a heat serum. This will help protect your hair from the direct heat.

Must-have hair accessories:

Hairpins for that loose hair.

Headband to keep hair out of your face, even if you have very short hair; it comes in handy when you have to work out.

Scrungy for quick ponytail or catch-up.

Silk scarf to wrap head at nights (really does prevent split ends)

One stylish clip for that day you might want to add some sparkle to your do.

Natural hair

Wide bristle brushes for detangling.
