MoBay Runs Again partners with JetBlue for 2015
Not even the 18C reading that greeted the organisers of the MoBay City Run, could reduce the heat they brought from sunny Jamaica to New York for the inaugural Big Apple launch at Miss Lily's Restaurant.
In fact, like partners, the Jamaica Tourist Board and JetBlue, Miss Lily's was prepared to host the close to 30 media and diaspora members, who invaded its intimate space, in order to showcase the 10K/5K Run and Walk, which will take place in the tourism capital, Montego Bay, Sunday, May 3.
Announcing its newest partner, JetBlue Airways as the official airline, the MoBay City Run Organising Committee member, Richard Ferdinand, in his opening remarks, spoke of the historically rich route the run will take.
"The MoBay City Run is a unique road race," said Ferdinand, adding that runners and walkers will experience the warm balmy Caribbean breeze as they leave the Old Hospital Park on Gloucester Avenue. On the route will be a real tour of the history of Montego Bay as they pass the old fort which still has the original cannons of colonial times, Sam Sharpe Square - the scene of the hanging of Sam Sharpe, Jamaica's national hero whose famous Christmas Rebellion catalysed the end of slavery in Jamaica. The 10K runners will pass the world-renowned Doctor's Cave Beach - famous for its healing waters.
"The MoBay City Run is a veritable history lesson in the city that houses the complete resort experience," he added.
Hosted in collaboration with the University of the West Indies, Mona, Western Jamaica Campus, the MoBay City Run aims to raise $5 million in 2015.
This year's sponsors include Flow, Courts, Rainforest Seafoods, The Gleaner, Sandals, ATL, Royalton White Sands, Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort, Ward's Power Tools, Cover Me Up Tent, and Billy Craig Insurance Brokers.
