The top-five shooters from the 100 Birds A Class were in superb form at the inaugural Driftwood Gun Club's inter-club competition, which set the tone for some 'near-perfect and world class' shooting among 92 of Jamaica's top shooters at the Portmore Range in St Catherine.

A Class's top five all shot jaw-dropping scores ranging from 92 to 96 and with those, the stage seems set for a compact, intriguing and exciting season.

Champion Shaun Barnes hit 96, runner-up Geoffrey Ziadie 94, third place Junior Clarke 93, while Christian Sasso and Peter McConnell both shot 92.

"It's really a good feeling to win," said Barnes.

"I focused on mental preparation and visual preparedness going into the tournament and I'm proud to have bounced back after ending last year on a shaky note," he continued.

Besides Sunday's win, Barnes is the four-time national champion. He remains focused on doing well in all local tournaments, which will serve as ideal preparation for his upcoming participation in the Sporting Clays World Cup in Florida this April.

In the B class competition, Shaun's sibling Marc Barnes went knocking on the A Class door with an impressive score of 91. Kurt Waul shot 88 and Evan Thwaites 87, for second and third, respectively.

"This was my third time shooting in the 90s and it felt good doing it," Marc outlined. "I am now practicing and working hard to dominate my class and qualify for the A Class," he outlined.

Marc must now win his next two competitions, while averaging two consecutive A Class scores, then he will make it to the elite league.
