Boys' Town's strikers came good as the team tagged Rivoli United 3-1 in a Red Stripe Premier League football encounter at Collie Smith Drive Complex yesterday.

Starting strikers Rafeik Thomas and Shamar Nicholson scored in the 30th and 71st minutes, respectively, while substitute Michael Blygen added another in the 88th minute. Defender Troy Moulton scored for the losers in the 77th minute.

The game started under windy conditions, which made it difficult for players from both teams to pass the ball around.

Boys' Town took the lead when Thomas kicked past Rivoli's goalkeeper, Shannon Bartley, for his 10th goal of the season.

lead increase

National Under-20 representative Nicholson increased the lead following an assist by Thomas.

Moulton gave his team some hope late in the game when he converted from a gift by Boys' Town's veteran 'keeper, Kirk Porter.

But former Rivoli player Blygen sealed the deal for his new club in the closing moments.

Coach of Boys' Town Andrew Price was happy that his team won all three points.

"The team has been playing well, and we are happy for the win today," Price told The Gleaner. "It was a workman-like performance.

"It is good that all three strikers used in the game scored. Nicholson, who was out of the team due to national duties, played well, Thomas scored and created for Nicholson and Blygen showed desire and heart in his debut for the club," Price reasoned.

Blygen, who replaced Nicholson in the second half, was happy to score in his first game for the Reds.

"It is a great feeling to score in my debut game for Boys' Town, against my old team. The hard work is paying off," Blygen said.

Meanwhile, Rivoli's coach, Calvert Fitzgerald, says his team failed to create enough chances and made mistakes at the back that cost them the game.

"We gave our opponents the goals. The three goals were avoidable," Fitzgerald said. "We just have to regroup and learn from the loss. The team will have to work harder and make necessary improvements for the next game," he said.
