Police seek parents of infant found dead in Ocho Rios garbage bin
OCHO RIOS, St Ann:
THE OCHO Rios police are appealing to the parents of a baby whose body was found in a trash can on Main Street in the town on Tuesday.
The body was discovered sometime after 11 a.m. by a man who was rummaging through the rubbish in search of bottles, who alerted the police.
"The body is that of a young baby and appears to be a few days old," said Assistant Superintendent Throyville Haughton, who is in charge of the Ocho Rios police.
"We want the parents of the child to come forward, or anybody who knows anything about what happened to this child," he added.
Wrapped in towel
Haughton said the body was found wrapped in a towel and placed in a bag.
He said the police would be exploring all possible angles to get to the root of the matter.
The assistant superintendent expressed the view that the much-talked-about CCTV, which has been earmarked for the resort town, could possibly have provided evidence if the system were in place.
The body was removed sometime after 2 p.m.
