LETTER OF THE DAY - Fight for a better life
THE EDITOR, Sir:
What is our purpose in life? This is a weird question, but one which needs to be asked and answered by everyone, especially young people. They have three options. Either they are going to grow up to be criminals, ordinary persons or successful citizens. Everyone starts out hoping to be great, but as we all know, life doesn't always turn out how we want it to.
In a world where it is very difficult to change one's circumstances, the first thing we need to change is our mindset - that is, how we see things, how we assess situations and our future. We are often too quick to conform to the norms of society. We, therefore, give up on the fight to change our circumstances at the first sign of resistance.
The fact is, most of us will give up without really digging in and fighting. Only a few will break this cycle and fight the demons that can plague our lives. The point I am trying to make is we all should be fighting to better ourselves, no matter our circumstances.
Most of us weren't born with silver spoons in our mouths. We have to do things the hard way. Fight until you win. Fight because we were born to fight. At the end will come all that we have dreamed of and the satisfaction we all desire.
Too many young people today lack purpose. This is not something a school can teach you to develop. It is something you figure out over time through introspection. Not everyone wants to be a doctor to heal the sick or lawyer to help the indigent, but I am almost sure that most people want to be successful and independent so they can help themselves and their families. This is what we should use to push ourselves to stay on the positive path.
