Moon Palace workers back on the job

Construction workers at the Moon Palace Jamaica Grande hotel in Ocho Rios, St Ann, who went on strike on Tuesday over outstanding monies owed to them, returned to work yesterday.

General manager of the hotel, Clifton Reader, confirmed yesterday that work has resumed on the property, which is scheduled to open in March.

Reader declined to comment further on the issue.

One worker told The Gleaner: "Everything settled from yesterday evening, everything 'criss' now."

It is not clear if and how the two-day work stoppage will affect the scheduled opening, set for March 7 with a performance by reggae superstar Shaggy.

The multimillion-dollar upgrade is to place the 730-room property at five-star status and marks the first time that the Mexico-based Palace Resorts is operating a property outside of Mexico.
