WESTERN BUREAU:

Gem Myers and Fab Five turned up the heat on what was an extremely cool afternoon at Silver Sands Villas in Duncans, Trelawny, last Sunday, when they whipped birthday boy Dr Bernie Marshall and his friends into a musical frenzy.

The renowned obstetric gynaecologist, who has the reputation of delivering close to 10,000 babies, was fêted by his wife, Judith, to an unforgettable birthday soirée at the mule tent in the exclusive community.

Marshall, who resides in Greensboro, North Carolina, but owns a home at Silver Sands, had in attendance his two daughters, Dr Stephanie Thompson, who followed in his footsteps, and Whitney, who is a lawyer.

His
son-in-law, Dr Sean Thompson, who has also made his name as one of the
best orthopaedic surgeons in New York, and more than 25 of his best
friends from his alma maters, Cornwall College and
Howard University, were in Trelawny celebrating his special
day.

Careful not to mention her husband's age, Judith
told Outlook that it was a day to party and they did
just that, using a steel pan band to open the six-hour
event.

The exceptionally rich voice of Myers
reverberated throughout the outdoor venue, while the bass, drums and
guitar, strung by Fab Five, were like a breath of fresh air. It was a
party mood that took charge of the Sunday afternoon, a respite from
three nights at the Jamaica Jazz & Blues
Festival.

Coupled with music of all genres, caterer
Thelma Gray's suckling pig, curried goat, jerked chicken, peppered
shrimp, potato pudding and coconut rum cake hit the spot the way only
authentic Jamaican food does.
