Jamaica Franchise, after trailing on first innings, were fighting back at the end of yesterday's second day of their four-day WICB Professional League top-of-the-table against Guyana Jaguars at Sabina Park.

The Tamar Lambert-led unit, led by two late wickets by 20-year-old fast bowler Marquino Mindley, had the Jaguars reeling at 54 for four, for an overall lead of 191, when stumps were drawn.

The impressive Mindley, who is in his debut season, and was a member of the West Indies provisional 30-man World Cup squad, ended with figures of two for 16.

This is after the Jamaicans were dismissed for a paltry 177 in their first innings in response to the Jaguars 314.

"After allowing ourselves to fall behind, I believe it was a commendable comeback by our bowlers, led by Mindley," said Lambert.

"We will now have to come out tomorrow with the same gutsy attitude and, hopefully, it will result in us restricting them to as low a total as possible."

Earlier, Jamaica got off to a disastrous start in their first innings. With a mere five runs on the board, they lost their first wicket when opener Nkrumah Bonner was caught in the slips off fast bowler Keon Joseph for one.

This brought together opener John Dillon Campbell and Jermaine Blackwood, and, together, while playing some attractive drives and shots square of the wicket, the pair added 50 runs for the second wicket before Campbell was caught behind for 14.

Left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul claimed four for 22 for Guyana Jaguars.
