The date has been set for this year's staging of the annual Actor Boy Awards. Now in its 25th year, the highly anticipated awards show are just over a month away and organisers are already expecting the 2015 staging to be a memorable one.

Last year, several of Jamaica's most talented actors and actresses were recognised for their outstanding contribution to the island's theatre industry. If There's A Will There's A Wife, Anancy Chaptaz Winner's Circle and Ladies of the Night were the big winners last year, and the 2015 list of nominees will be announced at a ceremony to be held tomorrow inside the JAMPRO Conference Room at JAMPRO's head office on Trafalgar Road.

This year's panel

There are six judges on this year's panel, including the likes of writer/director Michael Reckord, actress Cecil Clayton and former arts development chairman of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission, Suzanne Beadle. In addition to revealing this year's nominees, tomorrow's event will also explain in detail the organiser's plans for this year's 25th anniversary.

Premier gala event

Set to be held once more at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in Kingston, the awards show are expected to be the premier gala event on the island's theatre scene. Not keen on giving out too much information just yet, in a release sent to The Sunday Gleaner, Maurice Bryan, one of the event's head organisers, explained that this year's event will be extra special because of the 25th anniversary, and says patrons should expect a show like no other.

In previous years, the show has had to overcome tremendous financial difficulty, as organisers revealed that corporate sponsorship and governmental support have been lacking. Nonetheless, like last year, organisers are determined to put on a memorable show. The date of the awards ceremony has been set for March 30. Members of the public are being urged to support the event by attending the ceremony at a cost to be announced in the coming weeks.
