Prison visits resume

Regular visits to the Horizon Adult Remand Centre will resume today following more than a one-week break.

The visits were, suspended last week following a prison break from the facility and what the Correctional Service said were security breaches.

Commissioner of the Department of Corrections, Major Richard Reece said the decision was taken to resume normal visits, following a review of security operations at the facility.

Major Reece said the police are still searching for two female inmates, who escaped from the Armadale juvenile Correctional centre in Alexandria St. Ann on the weekend.

Nine of the 11, who made their escape by cutting their way through a fence close to one of the buildings, were recaptured.

Major Reece said the escape was due to poor infrastructure at that facility.

He said some of the 39 girls being housed at the facility are to be transferred.
