Jamaican Government to receive unclaimed bank account money

Several million dollars in dormant bank accounts are to be paid over to the Government.

The names of persons with dormant accounts were published recently in The Gleaner on February 5, advising them to make contact with the institutions where the accounts are held.

The sums in the dormant accounts range from almost $2 million to just over $500.

Under the Banking Act, money in bank accounts that have been dormant for 15 years or more become part of the revenues of Jamaica.

However, if this happens persons who can prove ownership of the bank account can make a claim to the Accountant General for the money to be repaid.
