Monique Grange, Gleaner Writer

Political Commentator Shalmon Scott said news that the Mayor of Kingston Desmond McKenzie has been selected to replace Bruce Golding, as the Jamaica Labour Party representative for West Kingston, runs contrary to statements made by Golding earlier this month.

In an address to the nation earlier this month, Golding had said that the party should make the way for a younger generation to lead the party.

Scott said while the 58-year-old McKenzie would find favour with the constituents of West Kingston, the selection goes against what the former prime minister and current JLP Leader said weeks ago.

However, age factor aside, Scott acknowledged that McKenzie, who is a longstanding councillor in West Kingston, has the experience to fill the post.
