Prime Minister Andrew Holness has recommended that Shahine Robinson be appointed as Minister of Transport and Works.

The appointment will take immediate effect and follows the resignation of former Minister of Transport and Works Mike Henry.

Henry resigned as transport minister last night in the wake of allegations of irregularities and fraud at his ministry.

It also comes just over a week after the prime minister stripped Henry of the responsibility for the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme (JDIP).

In assuming the transport and works portfolio, Robinson has relinquished her role as Minister without portfolio with responsibility for Local Government in the Ministry of Housing, Environment, Water and Local Government.
