The authorities have still not determined the number of passengers injured in yesterday’s bus crash at the intersection of Port Royal and Pechon streets in downtown Kingston.

The collision occurred between two buses from the state-owned bus company, the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC).

One of the drivers, 54-year-old Glendon Atkinson, died on the spot.

Corporate Communications Manager at JUTC, Reginald Allen, says investigators from the company are still working with hospital personnel to ascertain the number of injured persons.

However, Allen says information received so far indicates that the injuries are not considered serious.

He says investigators are working on a detailed report on the cause of the crash.

In a statement this afternoon, the Constabulary Communication Network said reports from the Denham Town Police are that about 7:30 pm Atkinson was driving a JUTC bus along Port Royal Street when he collided with another JUTC bus travelling along Pechon Street.

He fell from the bus and was run over.

The police were summoned and Atkinson was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
