Guns, ammunition seized in St James, St Andrew

The police in St James say they seized a firearm and five rounds of ammunition during an operation along the Greenwood main road near Montego Bay. Two men were also arrested during the operation.

The Constabulary Communication Network reports that about 9 a.m. yesterday, officers conducting an operation in the area stopped a bus. The vehicle was searched and a Smith and Wesson Springfield pistol with five .40 rounds were found. The items and the motor vehicle were seized and two male passengers taken into custody. Their identities are being withheld pending further investigations.

And the police also recovered an AK47 rifle and several rounds of ammunition in Arnette Gardens, St Andrew yesterday.

Reports are that about 12:45 yesterday afternoon, a police team from the Organized Crime Investigation Division and the Mobile Reserve, conducted an operation in the area, during which premises were searched. A weapon with its serial number erased was found in a shed. Seventeen, 7.62mm rounds were also seized.

Five persons were taken into custody for questioning, but have since been released.
