The Jamaica Environment Trust says it notes the reports that the Riverton fire is now under control.
However, JET cautions that there is no room for complacency, as dump fires can flare again.
JET also said many pollutants are not visible to the naked eye, and the smoke itself remains very harmful.
According to JET, it has been receiving many telephone calls from people located all over Kingston, the Kingston/Spanish Town corridor and Red Hills, all complaining of respiratory distress.
Meanwhile, NEPA said although ODPEM’s says ambient air quality tests show acceptable air quality, the authorities should reveal full details of these tests.
