Farmer shot dead by relative in Westmoreland

A 44-year-old farmer was shot dead at his home in Baulk Mountain district, Westmoreland yesterday.

He has been identified as Fitzroy Brooks. The Savanna-la-Mar police reported that Brooks was shot by a family member about 4:25 p.m. when he intervened in a dispute between two relatives.

According to the Constabulary Communication Network, Brooks' alleged shooter, while attempting to elude residents, tripped and his firearm a 9 mm pistol, with a magazine containing nine 9 mm rounds fell. He managed to escape and is now being sought by the police.

The injured farmer was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigations are continuing.
