Defending women's 60m champion Veronica Campbell-Brown is safely through to the semi-final, after she recovered from a poor start, to win her heat in 7.29.
Aleen Bailey is also through to the semi-finals, which will get underway on Sunday at 7:15am (Jamaica time), with the final set to run off a little later at 10:05am. Bailey finished second in her heat in a time of 7.34.
"I am happy that I was able to come here and execute and make it through to the semi-final," Campbell-Brown told The Gleaner after her run.
In the men's 60m hurdles, there were mixed fortunes for Jamaica's representatives. Richard Phillips made it through to the semi-finals quite comfortably, after easing down for second place in his heat, with a time of 7.71 - the sixth fastest going into the next round.
However, Eric Keddo didn't have the same fortune, crossing the line in fifth position in his heat; 7.96 on the clock.
