An investigation is now underway to determine the mysterious circumstances under which a woman was allegedly shot dead by the police in Cassava Piece, St. Andrew early this morning.

The victim, 45-year-old Diane Gordon was shot about 1.30 a.m. while on her way home from the wake for a 13-year-old girl.

The police claim the woman was shot during a shootout with gunmen.

However, the residents say there were no gunmen in the area at the time of the incident and that the police fired indiscriminately, hitting the woman in the head.

In the meantime, the Independent Commission of Investigations said notices have been served on the nine policemen who were involved in a shooting.

INDECOM Senior Public Relations Officer, Kahmile Reid, said the fingers of the policemen have also been swabbed.

She said the forensic team recovered several spent shells from the scene.
