Gov’t orders sugar audit

The Government has commissioned an audit of the Sugar Industry Authority and the Sugar Industry Research Institute, as it moves to strengthen the agencies.

The audit which is to cost $8 million is to be conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Agriculture Minister, Roger Clarke said it has become necessary to re-examine the operations of the institutions and the regulation that govern them in light of the privatisation of the sugar industry.

Clarke added that the government has a responsibility to ensure a proper regulation and efficient institutions in this new environment.
