Agriculture Minister, Roger Clarke, says he supports whatever action the board of the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) deems necessary in response to irregularities at the agency identified in a recent audit.
Arising out of that audit, the board yesterday sacked executive director of the Authority, Al Powell.
Powell was dismissed with immediate effect, after the audit revealed that there was no documentation of Powell’s credentials on file at the agency.
In addition, the audit found that Powell misused the Government’s credit card which was issued to him.
It is also reported that Powell circumvented the Agriculture Ministry’s legal officer and hired private lawyers in a matter involving the finance director who had challenged her dismissal.
That decision ended up costing RADA almost $4 million.
RADA’s board chairman Dr. Densil Williams and other board members yesterday met with Powell and the decision was made to relieve him of his duties.
