The Court of Appeal has granted police constable Everett Rodney $ 300,000 bail with sureties pending his appeal of an unlawful wounding case.
Rodney was last month sentenced to 15 months in prison.
In granting bail, Court of Appeal Judge Dennis Morrison ordered that he report to the Savanna-la-Mar police station on Monday and Fridays and surrender his travel documents to the police.
Resident Magistrate Sheron Barnes convicted Rodney of unlawful wounding, after evidence was given that he shot a patron in the left hand during an altercation at a dance in Westmoreland in December 2008.
The policeman said he acted in self defence but the magistrate found that he was not under attack when he fired the shot.
A date has not yet been set for the hearing of the appeal against conviction and sentence.
Rodney is being represented by attorney-at-law Lambert Johnson.
