Jamaica’s young Reggae Girlz failed in their bid to qualify for the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup after playing to a 1-1 draw with Panama in the CONCACAF qualifiers in Guatemala yesterday.

Jamaica, who needed a victory to claim the spot, appeared headed for the final four with Shantel Bailey's goal in the 33rd minute.

However, a foul by Courtney Douglas on Karla Riley handed Panama a penalty in the 73rd minute.

Fourteen-year-old Marta Cox converted from the spot as both teams finished with four points in Group-A. However, Panama got the place in the semifinals based on goal difference.

The other semifinalists are defending champions Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Panama's quarterfinal opponent will be decided when Mexico play the United States today in the last game for both in Group B.

The semifinal winners and the winner of the third-place game will qualify for the Under17 Women's World Cup later this year.
