Body of missing schoolgirl found

Police detectives in St Catherine are now at the scene along the Spanish Town By-Pass where the decomposing body of a teenage girl was found this afternoon.


She is Shanique Hazel, a 16-year-old student of the Spanish Town High School in St Catherine.

Hazel who is of a Hampton Drive address in Hampton Green Spanish Town, was last seen alive on Tuesday last week.

Residents stumbled upon the remains near the El Prado Housing Scheme about noon and called the police.

The police say the throat was slashed and Hazel appeared to have been raped.

Meanwhile the Spanish Town High School is in mourning following the discovery of the decomposing body of Shanique Hazel. Shanique attended Spanish Town High School.

Students and staff broke down in tears after hearing the news today.

Administrators at Spanish Town High say counselling is being provided to the affected students and staff.

And family members had to be comforted at the scene.
