The government has allocated a further $92 million this financial year for the relocation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.

The allocation is contained in the 2012/13 Estimates of Expenditure which is being examined by Parliament’s Standing Finance Committee.

The Ministry is being relocated based on the high cost of renting office space in New Kingston where the Ministry is currently located.

The relocation is also a part of a drive by the government to redevelop Downtown Kingston.

The ministry has indicated that it is expected that feasibility studies and other related reports, as well as the design of the new structure will be completed this fiscal year.
