Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller joined scores of volunteers who turned up this morning to help with the clean up of the National Heroes Park in central Kingston.

The National Heroes Park has been designated as the national project for this year's commemoration of Labour Day.

Simpson Miller cleaned the statue of Marcus Garvey then helped to plant a tree on the eastern side of the park.

She made a quick stop at the shrine of former prime ministers Michael Manley and Hugh Shearer.

Later, she told journalists that she would be holding discussions with several state agencies to ensure the park is kept in good condition.

The Jamaica Broilers Group is erecting a perimeter fence on the southern side of the park.
