Jamaican batsman Marlon Samuels scored an undefeated century as the West Indies, electing to bat, reached 304 for six at stumps on today’s opening day of the second Test against hosts England at Trent Bridge.
Samuels is undefeated on 107; while skipper Darren Sammy is also eyeing a century on 88.
The pair has so far put on 168.
The West Indies were struggling on 136 for six following the departure of wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin for one.
Earlier, Shivnarine Chanderpaul scored 46, while Kieran Powell hit 33 following the departure of his opening partner Adrian Barath without scoring.
James Anderson and Stuart Broad have so far taken two wickets each for England.
The Caribbean side has made two changes, bringing in off-spinner Shane Shillingford and pacer Ravi Rampaul; leaving out speedster Fidel Edwards.
West Indies are trailing 1-nil in the three-match series.
