Suriname: Police kill four robbers

Published: Thursday June 14, 2012 | 12:24 pm Comments 0

The police in Suriname yesterday shot and killed four men a few hours, after they robbed a jewellery store.

The authorities say three other men have also been detained.

The police believe those killed and those in custody are part of a gang whose crime sprees date back to 1995.

Meanwhile, Prosecutor General Subhas Punwasi said the use of deadly force had been justified although it was later revealed that four men were not armed when they were approached by the police.

He said the men were identified as the perpetrators who also committed other violent robberies.
