The government is looking to institute measures to reduce the disadvantages associated with migration.
Among the noted disadvantages is the brain drain associated with migration, and its impact on developing countries such as Jamaica.
State Minister in the Foreign affairs ministry, Arnaldo Brown, said the government is moving to implement strategies that will reduce transaction costs in remittance flows.
He said efforts are also being made to safeguard the human rights and social protection of Jamaican migrants.
Brown said while the financial capital of migrants has received the most attention over the last decade, their skills and knowledge constitute another important asset for development.
He said Jamaica is working on a National Policy and a Plan of Action on International Migration and Development and a Diaspora and Development policy.
