BARCELONA, Spain:
The only individual world leader on Jamaica’s team to the 14th IAAF World Junior Championships, Janeive Russell, and sixth-ranked shot putter, Ashinia Miller, have been name team captains.

Russell, who is the head girl of Holmwood Technical, ran a time of 57.04 seconds during the heats of the National Senior Trials earlier this month – the fastest over the distance by a junior this year.

Calabar’s Miller’s best mark in the shot put this year is 20.15 metres.

Meanwhile, Julian Forte, the fastest Jamaican junior sprinter this year, is the only athlete yet to join his teammates here in Barcelona for the IAAF World Junior Championships, which runs off tomorrow.

Forte, who is currently at MVP’s training camp, has ran 10.19 seconds over the 100m and 20.38 seconds (2nd fastest time in the world this year).

He is expected to arrive in Barcelona tonight and is slated to run the first round of the men's 200m on Thursday, July 12.
