Prime Minister, Portia Simpson Miller has given Ambassador Designate to the United States, Stephen Vasciannie, final instructions ahead of his posting next week.
Professor Vasciannie paid a visit to the Prime Minister yesterday, just days before his July 17 departure date for Washington.
The USA is Jamaica’s largest trading partner and also home to the largest concentration of Jamaicans living overseas.
The Office of the Prime Minister says during yesterday’s discussions Simpson Miller highlighted a number of priority concerns which the new ambassador will need to address.
However, the office did not say what these priorities were.
Simpson Miller also wished Ambassador Vasciannie a successful tour of duty.
She also said she was confident his leadership in Washington will add to the good name of Jamaica.
Professor Vasciannie, who is leaving the post of Principal of the Norman Manley Law School, is a trained attorney and has vast experience in the fields of International Law and International Relations.
Jamaica has been without an ambassador to Washington since April 1 following the resignation of Audrey Marks in March.
