BARCELONA, Spain: Jamaica's Odean Skeen won the country’s first medal at the 14th IAAF World Junior Championships, as he stopped the clock at 10.28 seconds to claim bronze in the men’s 100m final.

The 2010 Youth Olympics Games champion got a good start but faded in the middle of his race before fighting back to nip United States Tyreek Hill (10.29) and compatriot Jazeel Murphy (10.29) on the line.

World leader over the distance, Adam Gemili, won in a new championship and British Junior record of 10.05 seconds (wind/speed +0.1m/s)

The silver medal was claimed by America’s Aaron Ernest in a time of 10.17 seconds.

Gemili’s win brought an end to Jamaica’s dominance at the junior championships and male sprinting in general.

Dexter Lee had won the last two junior championship titles, winning in 2008 in Bydgoszcz, Poland and two years ago in Moncton, Canada.

Jamaica’s men before today held every global 100m title.
