Jamaica’s Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller and the Jamaican High Commissioner to London, Aloun Assamba, rose from their seats to join thousands on their feet in the London Olympic Stadium a short while ago as the name ‘Jamaica’ resonated from the speakers in the huge venue.

Double Olympic record holder Usain Bolt then emerged with the Jamaican flag waving in the evening skies.

The spectacular opening ceremony, being witnessed by over 60,000 spectators at the London Olympic Stadium, heralds the start of the 30th Olympiad in the British capital.

Jamaica was the 94th country to march into the stadium.

Some 205 teams will parade on the tracks this evening.

Jamaica’s team members marched into the stadium in their Cedella Marley-designed gear which was voted one of the best by TIMES magazine recently.

"It’s a party vibes," Bolt earlier tweeted.

Long jumper Trecia-Kaye Smith was revelling in the outfits.

"I know I'm biased but Jamaica is the best dressed country in the parade I’ve seen this far," she tweeted.
