Jamaica’s Alia Atkinson recorded a new personal best of 1:06.79 to advance to the finals of the 100m breast stroke following a swim off with Canadian Tera Van Beilen.

The swim-off became necessary because Atkinson had tied with Van Beilen for fourth place in semi-final one, which also meant a tie for the eighth position in the finals.

Gleaner Photographer Ricardo Makyn has been tracking Atkinson since her practice session at the Aquatic Centre yesterday.
