The Police High Command has ordered a probe into reports that threats have been made against the life of well-known Catholic clergyman, Monsignor Gregory Ramkissoon.
Monsignor Ramkisoon reported the matter to the police last week.
In a release issued last night, the high command said the investigation is now at an early stage.
It also said the police will offer to Monsignor Ramkissoon all the security he needs at this time.
Father Ramkisoon said last week, he received two threatening phone calls after he condemned the eviction of several families from a Duke Street property in Kingston and the police killing of a pregnant woman in St. Thomas.
Yesterday, the Opposition Leader, Andrew Holness denounced the threats against the Catholic clergyman.
Addressing worshippers at the St. Ann’s Bay Pentecostal Church Holness called the threats un-Jamaican.
Meanwhile, The Opposition Spokesman on National Security, Delroy Chuck has called for the Prime Minister and the National Security Minister to condemn the threats against Monsignor Ramkissoon.
