The Scrap Metal Federation is seeking to reassure the advertising industry that there is nothing to fear with the reopening of the trade.
Yesterday, an advertising industry representative, Donovan White, said the sector would be crippled, when the scrap metal trade resumes.
However, the President of the federation, Jonathan Aarons, said the new regulations are a fool-proof way of protecting stakeholders’ property from theft.
Players in the advertising industry said they are preparing to lobby the government to ensure the trade does not resume.
However, Aarons said customs and policing monitoring of the proposed central loading sites will ensure there are rigid inspections.
The scrap metal trade was shut down amid millions of dollars worth of widespread theft.
