Foreign Governments offer help to Jamaica

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller says representatives of governments from the international community have made contact to enquire how they can assist the country to recover from the effects of Hurricane Sandy.



In a national broadcast last night she said Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad Bissessar was among those who called.



Simpson Miller also expressed optimism that Jamaica would be able to overcome the setbacks resulting from the hurricane.



Various government agencies are today expected to submit detailed reports with their priorities for recovery following the passage of Hurricane Sandy.



The reports are to be considered at next Monday’s Cabinet meeting.



Simpson Miller also said teams from the various agencies and contractors have been deployed to tackle two immediate priorities.



She said these are the clearing of roadways of fallen trees and debris and the restoration of electricity.
