The Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS) says itís aiming to restore electricity to all its customers by the end of this week.
Most of the island lost power following the recent passage of Hurricane Sandy.
The JPS has been working to restore power since, but it says about 13,000 customers remain without electricity.
It says most of these customers are in the parishes of Portland, St Thomas, St Mary, and St Ann, which were worst affected by the hurricane.
The company explains that restoration efforts have slowed as a result of heavy rainfall and landslides in these parishes over the past few days.
The JPS says the situation is further compounded by the theft of power lines in some communities.
In the meantime, the company says with most of the island back to normal, many of its field staff, who had been redeployed to assist with post-hurricane activities, have now returned to normal duties.
