The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says itís awaiting a response from authorities in Barbados concerning a report from Jamaican Avia James that she was treated badly by Immigration officials in that country.

State Minister Arnaldo Brown says the Diaspora and Consular Affairs Department received a complaint from James in September outlining the alleged ill-treatment she received while trying to enter Barbados.

He says a copy of that letter was then sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade in Barbados as well as to the Jamaican High Commission in Trinidad and Tobago for investigation and follow up.

Brown says officials in Barbados have acknowledged receipt of the letter and informed that the matter was being investigated.

But he says when asked to provide a status report last month, the Barbadian Foreign Ministry responded saying the matter has been referred to other agencies and itís awaiting replies from those agencies before it provides an official response.

The State minister notes that while James has indicated that she is not interested in filing a law suit but only wants money she says was taken away from her returned.

James is among eight persons being sought in relation to the Shanique Myrie case.

Myrie has taken the Barbadian Government to the Caribbean Court of Justice on allegations that she was sexually assaulted by an immigration officer last year.
