The Registrar Generalís Department (RGD) has commenced a drive to register more than 10,000 children under 12 years old.

The initiative is targeted at children in Kingston, St Catherine, Westmoreland and Hanover, born between January 2000 and December 2011, and who have never received a birth certificate.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the RGD and Director of Operations, Yvette Scott, told JIS News that the three-month programme, which got underway on October 23 and runs until December 13, forms part of the departmentís efforts to ensure all children across the island are registered.

Already, a number of children have been processed at fairs held at venues in the targeted parishes. Seven more events are slated to be held up to December 13 and the RGD is appealing to parents to take their children out to be certified.
